See my entry to the TGC futuristic handheld device 4 competition! (I won!)I have been struggling through the initial stages of C4D, as there are a rare few tutorials out there.
I decided to just compile my knowledge into here, to help any other noobs like me. One unfortunate thing is that my whole help section is blank.
So I set out to find myself some tutorials, so i could climb the first rung of 3d designing.
See my dbp and c4d link up section+ Good reference +
http://www.killanet.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=5443i decided that i needed just enough for me to say model in what i draw. i looked around at some
tutorials that were available, and they were shockingly advance. irritating.
Topics
-how to texture and paint primitively,
-pan and control the camera,
-create shapes,
-be able to rotate and resize them,
-learn how to make rooms and floors,
- know a smattering about lights,
- and know how to export something in a 3d file and a picture file.
-Sky and landscapes (matrix)
-beautiful glass vase
-how to make windows
-how to select multiple things without having to press shift-click all the time
- texture and paint
i have solved this problem. the section below the main working screen is labelled 'materials'
everything else flows from here
-pan and control camera
middle mouse key, hold down alt and move around, 'Tools' dropdownbar - select camera.
-create regular shapes
objects dropdownbar, and play around with the spline and primitive or whatever, you will get your shape.
im not fully sure how to make your own shape yet, but have a feeling its got somthing to do with the far
out named Nurbs.
-rotate and resize
mouseover the first 6 pictures on the top, they will tell you what they do
-learn how to make rooms and floors
In the objects section, i can add a 'floor'
-lights
objects-lights. thats as much as i know right now.
see
here-sky and landscape
objects, sky, not sure how to use it fully yet. and object - landscape.
i mucked around with it and came up with Deadshell (scroll down). i quite like it.
-how to make windows
http://www.photogabble.co.uk/2007/06/19/how-to-model-a-room-in-cinema-4d/this place has a beautiful tutorial on how to make windows, doors, ect. very essential.
-how to select multiple things without having to press shift-click all the time
there is this really good tutorial here, once again very essential
http://www.graphicaddicts.net/forums/archive.php/Cinema+4d+-+Multiple+Materials/2171Dont take a look at it and run away, believe me, its very useful. read the whole thing.

I was always irritated when people put up tutorials on the net on how to make like squiggly or spiky ball thingys then in the middle of the tutorial they tell you to go to 'Structure - Matrix extrude' or something like that, and when you click on the structure toolbar, all you get is greyed out options. they annoyed me to no end. i finally forced myself to keep experimenting until i find the way to do it, and i have. What made me do it was
this beautiful tutorial (see the image at the end). i decided that i definitaly wanted to make something like it. I found out that to access the matrix extrude panel, you have to press on the 'Use polygon tool' button on the side, THEN go to the structure toolbar and find matrix extrude (Yes, it is there). i think its also there if you right click on the model youre doing. make sure its editable first. (press 'c').
This is what i made. its not that great, but hey, its a start.

Closely after, i made this

I used an
excellent tutorial from
this site. Its really fun playing around with the hair settings and the color, and the extreme realistic beauty with so little effort truly amazes me.
this ones not as great, but i saved it cos it looked so weird ; P

I was really annoyed today when
this site, at the step when it says use the 'point tool' and shape it, and when i use it, nothing happens. What is this? everything is understandable up to that point. why?
So i just kept pressing buttons, ended up overlagging the computer and had to kill the c4d process, and finally came up with a solution.
click on point tool, then right click on the object, then MAGNET. I shall continue with the tutorial.
I stopped the tutorial. way out of my league. I came up with a screwed up image of some blob. oh well, ive still got my furballs.
Check
this site out, its got an amazing tutorial on schotastic rendering. absolutely legendary.
This is what i made, i really really like it. i made the 'A eye' texture on paint.net (free awesome paint program), and used bodypaint to import onto my orb. This is pretty much the first image ive made with bodypaint.

-Beautiful glass vase
I dug deep to find tutorials for this because i found a picture of a beautiful glass vase, and i came up with these awesome sites
to make the vase
to make the materialTook around 5 minutes to render (global illumination standard 70% accuracy) i was gonna do 90% acc but took too long.
